Amor en Boyle Heights

In celebration of LA’s rich chicano history, our friends commemorated their 5th anniversary while paying homage to their roots

On a beautifully bright day in February, abnormally warm for the month, my partner and I met with our friends off Cesar Chavez Blvd to take their anniversary photos. It was their idea to integrate old school chicano fashion to juxtapose the vibrant cityscape of the neighborhood, and it’s safe to say they absolutely understood the assignment.

While being there, we all felt the palpable history and energy of Boyle Heights, and the warmth of the sun felt like a loving embrace. Locals came up to our friends and complimented their outfits, relating stories and memories of their youth in the area, thereby passing the torch over to our generation to keep up the fight and keep our heritage strong.
